Notes for Duncan Adams:
Future generations may find Duncan difficult to locate. He was registered as 'David Adams', but was christened 'Duncan'. All subsequent legal transactions have been as 'Duncan Adams' (driving licence, passport, marriage certificate, etc).
Until his marriage, Duncan lived in Prestwich, North Manchester, then he moved with Celia to Withington, South Manchester. In 1970, they moved to Rawtenstall (where Duncan's new business was located). In 1990, they moved to North Wales.
Until 1970 he worked as a Senior Laboratory Technician (Bacteriology - FRSH, AIBMS) with the Public Health Laboratory Service (Manchester). He was co-opted by the County Emergency Planning Officer as a Home Office Scientific Advisor for Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Warfare and trained accordingly by the Home Office. He retained this position until the organisation was disbanded, a few years after glasnost, in 1995.
From 1970 to 1986 he created, and was chairman of a successful company of Private Investigators and Bailiffs. In 1986 he decided to retire, and he and Celia purchased a woodland (Hafod Wood, 60 acres) near to Henllan, North Wales, where they moved so they could 'work the wood' and practice conservation. He then became bored and qualified as an accountant (AFA), but soon became bored again and passed the firm on to Ian Lance Adams, who also qualified.
After this, he tried to retire again, but dabbled in internet auctions and the such-like.
He currently (2003) lives with Celia and their dog at 15 School Street, Henllan, Denbighshire, LL16 5BA. He is (2003) a local councillor, and runs the local Neighbourhood Watch, having been the North Wales representative to the National Association.

Until she met Duncan, Celia had always lived in Rawtenstall, Lancashire. Celia, Like Duncan, was a Medical Laboratory Technician, which was how they met. She assisted Duncan in his business until around 1980, when she and her sister (Glynis Birchall, nee Evans) opened a Royal Doulton Giftware shop, which she continued to run until they moved to live in Wales. Notes from Celia
I remember as a child visiting "Grandma Askew" at her home in Cross Street North, Haslingden. My main memory is of her large sideboard with a pair of black and white dogs one either side. Along the back of the sideboard were a line of jam jars containing coloured beads. Grandma used to crochet milk jug covers etc. and stitch beads around the edges. If I was very good she would give me a small bag of beads to make things with.
Eventually Grandma became unable to look after herself and went to live with Frank her son and his wife Ethel. I used to go with my mum to visit her. She actually died of senile dementia but at the time it was something not to be talked about! I remember hushed conversations of how grandma had gone out in the middle of the night and had to be brought home and "Fastened" in bed. I never really understood what Fastening in bed actually entailed!

As a small child I remember visiting "Auntie Lily" at her home in Haslingden. I don't recall any mention of her husband so I presumed he had died. My main memory is of her large grey parrot. When you went in the house it would say "The money's on the table". This was because when the milkman called each week Lily was often in the kitchen and would shout to the milkman "The money's on the table!"
When Lily died the parrot ended up in the petshop in Rawtenstall. It became well known for its talking but unfortuately the local schoolchildren used to go into the shop in their lunch hour and they taught it to swear! Eventually the shop had to get rid of it because of its bad language!
