Notes for Duncan Adams:

Future generations may find Duncan difficult to locate.  He was registered as 'David Adams', but was christened 'Duncan'.  All subsequent legal transactions have been as 'Duncan Adams' (driving licence, passport, marriage certificate, etc). 

Until his marriage, Duncan lived in Prestwich, North Manchester, then he moved with Celia to Withington, South Manchester.  In 1970, they moved to Rawtenstall (where Duncan's new business was located).  In 1990, they moved to North Wales.

Until 1970 he worked as a Senior Laboratory Technician (Bacteriology - FRSH, AIBMS) with the Public Health Laboratory Service (Manchester).  He was co-opted by the County Emergency Planning Officer as a Home Office Scientific Advisor for Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Warfare and trained accordingly by the Home Office.  He retained this position until the organisation was disbanded, a few years after glasnost, in 1995. 

From 1970 to 1986 he created, and was chairman of a successful company of Private Investigators and Bailiffs.  In 1986 he decided to retire, and he and Celia purchased a woodland (Hafod Wood, 60 acres) near to Henllan, North Wales, where they moved so they could 'work the wood' and practice  conservation.  He then became bored and qualified as an accountant (AFA), but soon became bored again and passed the firm on to Ian Lance Adams, who also qualified.

After this, he tried to retire again, but dabbled in internet auctions and the such-like.

He currently (2002) lives with Celia and two dogs at 15 School Street, Henllan, Denbighshire, LL16 5BA.  He is (2002) a local councillor, and runs the local Neighbourhood Watch, having been the North Wales representative to the National Association.  He is an active freemason.

Until she met Duncan, Celia had always lived in Rawtenstall, Lancashire.  Celia, Like Duncan, was a Medical Laboratory Technician, which was how they met.  She assisted Duncan in his business until around 1980, when she and her sister (Glynis Birchall, nee Evans) opened a Royal Doulton Giftware shop, which she continued to run until they moved to live in Wales.  Now (2002) she is a very full-time housewife and family tree researcher (2002).

A Col. S.P. Fearon has published privately a booklet on the Fearon pedigree in 1972. The Colonel believes that all the Fearons of English origin who have since dispersed around the world originate from the tiny hamlet of Dean and the vicinity of Cockermouth, in the County of Cumberland (most northwesterly of English counties, including the Lake District). He believes that the name FEARON appears first in England in the mid 16th century in Cumberland as a changed form of the FERRERS line.

The Fearon Family Motto: "Dum Spiro Spero" (While I Breathe I Hope). From the booklet:

 

"The supposed descent of the Fearon family from the Ferrers of Bere Ferrers and Churston in Devon is based on the evidence of the crest and coat-of-arms used by both families, and the extinction of the male line of the Ferrers family at the same time as the Fearon name first appeared in Cumberland. If this assumption be correct there must have been a member of the Ferrers family who left Devon for some imperative reason at the end of the 15th or the beginning of the 16th century (when the Ferrers line became extinct) and raised the first Fearon family in Cumberland. The first male Fearon traced in Cumberland by the compiler is William Fearon who died on 15th April 1575 and is buried at Gosforth in Cumberland. This date makes is possible for him to have been the father of Christopher who was baptized at Dean in 1561/1562. William was a common Christian name in the Ferrers family, and both Ferrers and Fearon has a common derivation through the French for a smith or iron worker. If indeed William is the link between the families, the imperative reason which drove him from Devon to Cumberland must have been sufficient for him to have changed his name while retaining the original derivation."
